Jonathan Wong - Out Of Frame

Who's Jonathan Wong? If you still don't know him, you should probably feel ashamed. He's definitely someone who should be known wider. Not only good looking but very talented, sings in few languages (4 as for now ;P) and has kinda unique music. Haven't heard of him? Click on the tags below and find his music!
I especially respect artists who like to experiment with music, mix different kinds of music that on the surface don't mach to each other. Jonathan is one of them amongst Leehom Wang and JJ Lin.
So let's take a look at his new "child".
新巴赫狂想曲 is the exact reflection of it's title "rap-sody". You can hear rap and strings in the back, which is absolutely wonderful. In the second track 你是哪種人 you can hear mix of modern and classical chinese music. That's exactly what I love and gives amazing effect. I like it a lot. Next one is really interesting, something different. An absolute yes. 人啊人 is a mandarin track. Another thing with folk somewhere but in a real soft way. Just some delicate sounds that suggest folk but mixed with something else, plus the guitar in one moment. Epic. Worth attention! Back to Cantonese with the next one. Let's leave folk tunes for modern ones. This one is very interesting too.
The last one is 再生. A simple ballad in two languages.

G.E.M Tang - My Secret

The album is up. And YesAsia is fricking me out, coz they've sent me an email with a change of shipping's date twice already. First it was supposed to be on 30th of October and today I received another mail saying that the date has changed to 12th of November.
I really like to listen to an album when I get my own copy. It's such a bigger joy, but the thought of waiting another 3 weeks to get my copy makes me wanna listen to it now.
That's the reason why I won't write a review. But you can be sure that the whole album will be a great success and hit, so don't hesitate to listen (AND BUY! - especially the special limited version - it's soo cool!).

--
Edit: After all I decided to give it a listen. One Button is something new in GEM's style. But it's a great song. The next track is Good To Be Bad, the first single. I love this song so much. Get Over You is the second single. A beautiful ballad. GEM likes to mix styles, experiment with new things, likes to surprise us. Like with the next song 美好的舊時光. I dunno how to describe it. Very nice and pleasurable song, something like a faster ballad. You can describe 寂寞星球的小玫瑰 somehow similar. I was afraid The Voice Within will turn out to be Christina Aguilera's cover, but fortunately it's not (not that I have anything against CA, I do adore her, but sometimes you just shouldn't cover such artists - a fail is granted). Very pretty song, I like it. But along with 我的秘密 I start to worry. Why so many slower songs, where's the upbeat? Apart from that 我的秘密 has a beautiful melody and chorus. There're some guitars in the back and a piano. 末日 is a ballad this time. Pay attention to the background music. Wonderful! But I really want the usual GEM! The faster GEM. Twinkle II - an English/Mandarin song. "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" - remember that? It's like her version. I absolutely love it. Kay, my dream came true. Say it Loud is faster, finally. Not dance, but pop. Great chorus.
Summarizing - it's a very good album. Well, it's not a new thing - everything that GEM's doing is fantastic. But I must say one thing - too many slow songs. Even though I love every single one of them, there should be more songs like One Button or Good To Be Bad. But at least GEM's isn't monothematic. I'm glad.

Edit2: A little encourage for you to actually buy the album. I got my copy today and it was huge! You can actually see the whole thing on GEM's youtube channel.
There's also some weird but really cool thing called webcam-v. Meaning you can make your own Video to The Voice Within. You just have to get a kind of key or marker - you can get it along with the original copy or simply print it out on her web page. It's really cool. I've spent 2 hours playing with it ;D Right, you need a webcam, of course. You can see a demo on her web page or yt channel as well.
About the limited edition - there's only 8000 of those, so hurry up to get yours! It's big so make sure you've got a place for it (coz I don't - my whole shelf is filled up with some crazy limited editions of various shapes ;D).
And maybe this will encourage you even more - there's also an option with a poster and also - you can get it on YesAsia 12% off.
Support GEM, she's really worked hard ;)

Jonathan Wong - Spectrum

Yay~! I'm so happy I've found it. Last time I wrote about his first album and now his second EP is out.
Can you believe in this guy's voice? I can't.
你們好 (世界大同版) (Feat. 歐陽靖) is a.m.a.z.i.n.g and Jin (aka MC Jin) is here too~! I love this guy. 東西 is another upbeat and great song. And then we have 心足, a beautiful ballad. 一千種方法 not slow nor fast, just as it should be. Pretty. Get By is kinda the same rhythm just some guitar is added. I like it. It's very important to keep the tradition alive so here goes 盛宴 which is nothing else but 心足 in Mandarin XD And 你們好 is in Mandarin too. Sound even better ;P Spectrepilogue is prelude that ends the EP and it's kinda similar to Lullaby on his first album if I recall correctly. I love it. But too short.
Another great EP Jon~!

The cover could be better though.

Jonathan Wong - Debut Album

Jonathan's newest album is out but since I can't find it anywhere I'll put his previous album here. Little propaganda for him, coz he really deserves attention.
罗兹威尔 is a great upbeat song with great chorus. Even though I'm not much a fan of cantonese language, it doesn't bother me at all here. Especially in the second track 摸黑 where I can't imagine any other language except cantonese and english to be used here. I just love the song. And those oriental sounds somewhere in the middle. Tell Me is an interlude to 南北极. 南北极 is a slower song but it has some amazing atmosphere. Very original. 1+1 is the first ballad on the album and surprisingly I'm loving it. Seawave is another interlude and then 情诗三百首 starts. It's a hard song to describe. I like it anyways. After that we have Lullaby which is an interlude, but honestly I wouldn't be able to sleep after that xD And Roswell starts. I wonder it they'd use it in that TV Show. It's one of my faves here. Entirely in english. 怎麽着 is the same song but sang in cantonese. Separate Ways is an amazing and beautiful ballad and the same way it's an english version of 1+1 XD And again he sings the same song just in different language... but this time Mandarin! 几米的距离 (《1+1》国语版) is a Mandarin version of Separate Ways. Fino a Ti Amo is again an English version of 摸黑. But "fino a ti amo" added makes the song sound even better XD Don't u get the feeling that his English versions sound so much better than cantonese like... always?

Bosco Wong - Bravo

Long time no hear from Bosco, huh? But he's back with... another EP.
一代宗师 is an upbeat song and sounds really good. Finally something good in Cantonese. In case you missed his ballads there goes 越過高山越過谷. But nicer than normal ballad, sounds better. BW1213 is weird actually, not upbeat, not yet a ballad. I liked the chorus though. 畏高 is nice but I'm afraid nothing special. 千金亂散 has a great chorus. I love it. I love the whole background sound actually. Not that his voice is bad, coz it's good. And rapping part is good, but... Bosco, an album, please!

Tony Leung - Wind & Sound

I personally think Tony Leung is one of the best actors in Hong Kong. Wherever and whoever he plays he always does it perfectly. I truly admire him. But now let's talk 'bout his music.
Wind & Sand is truly a perfect album. Just after hearing 風沙 you know it's gonna be amazing. I love 風沙's style and atmosphere. I can listen to this song all night long and not only not fall asleep but I can feel relaxed and even get into meditation mood. It's just amazing what he's done here. And then we've got 名字 which is one of the most famous songs from this album. And I know why, coz it's beautiful. How many of you have ever watched Infernal Affairs? I've seen it couple of times, coz I love it. But if you've seen that you should remember it's theme song - 無間道. That's duet of giants Tony Leung and Andy Lau are not a perfect match on the screen but also when it comes to music. Amazing sound. And 最後一支舞. Yes, you guessed right, I love it. And also 問號 is very nice. 我很需要你 is a duet with Miriam Yeung. Slower, but still very pretty. And even though 趁幸福毀滅之前 seems like a classic ballad, I'm lovin' it. Little less 這次是真的, but just a little bit. Now we starts cantonese tracks. 明星(粵語) starts amazing even though I hate French and don't like Cantonese that much it doesn't bother me here. 無間道(粵語) is a cantonese version of 无间道. Also 有愛錯無放過(粵語) is a cantonese version of another song here 我很需要你.

Gillian Chung - Everyone Bounce EP

This EP came along with Twins Best Hits. Same title, same release day. After Charlene's released her own EP now Gillian can't be any worse, right? But this EP surprised me... And also the fact that title really express its style.
心多 first thing is a duet with MC Jin and reminds me very much of Kate Tsui, same style as her last EP. And it's kinda nice, plesureable. MC Jin has a very good flow and voice. Reminds me of Joe Flizzow (my fave Malaysian rapper) a lot. Next guy she's singing with is William Chan in 什麼是潮流. Here goes really dance style like you hear in clubs. Not really my cup of tea - some upbeat, dance, disco, close to techno whatever-it-is thing. 生活在他方 is a ballad. Weird after that dance song. And definitely my favorite song here - 天后站出發. It's a ballad with soft guitar in the back. And 橙路 - yet another ballad, but nice. 就在現場 (國語) - Mandarin version of that duet with William. Lol, sounds so much nicer in Mandarin, but still... not my thing. Could be worse ^^'

Eason Chan - Time Flies

Yes, I do have Eason-mania lately. And it happened just few days before his new release so his new EP caught me in the right time.
無人之境 is beautiful. Eason's guitar ballad can't be possibly bad! I love 大人! Chorus is amazing, even Cantonese doesn't bother me here. It mostly does. I love the moment when it comes to an end. 一絲不掛 is a ballad, but just hear those strings in the background. The only song that doesn't fully satisfy me is 陀飛輪, because it's so normal. But yeah, after this "normal" ballad goes 心腹. When I saw MV for that I though it's a joke. But no, it's a song made for McDonald's cf. Lol. But definitely one of the best songs McD's ever had. And 味之素 is great too. Chorus is a.m.a.z.i.n.g.
Another good example of Eason's awesomeness. And he really reminds me of Leslie Cheung on the cover.

My Personal List of The Most Amazing Ballads

Today I sat down and listened to a wonderful song by Nicky Lee. And then I thought I'll make a list of the best ballads I love listen to. That kind of ballads I love, so nothing so sappy that makes you fall asleep.
And then I realized that most of them is in English. Maybe coz I like sing along with singers ;P And also that lots of them are covers.
As I made a list on paper then I had that thought why not post it? So here it is. My personal list of the most beautiful ballads in cpop.
Order is accidental.

The Love I Know - Evan Yo
/I remember when I first heard it... i couldn't stop listen. such a beautiful lyrics and Evan's English sounds great/

Cries In A Distance - JJ Lin
/i don't think anyone needs a comment for that. it's one of the most amazing songs ever. It can make you cry like a little baby /

Another Heaven - Leehom Wang & Jane Zhang
/it was like a dream duo for me. Jane and Leehom together. I almost got crazy when I heard that for the first time/

I Started A Joke - Angela Zhang
/i love it/

Nothing's Gonna Change My Love - Khalil Fong
/Khalil's warm voice and that classic song. Could anyone do it better?/

Way Back Into Love - Fish Leong & Victor Wong
/Originally this song if from move Music & Lyrics or something like that. I liked the movie a lot and it was a theme song there. I'm so happy the two of them made a cover. I think they made it even better than orginal/

Nocturne - Jay Chou
/it was a love from the first hear. and the mv's so beautiful./

Yuan Dian - Tanya Chua & Stefanie Sun
/Tanya's one of the best singers I know and this duo only made it even more great/

Make A Love Song - Chita
/my weak point - korean in chours. and the whole song is a little wonder. for me/

Killa - JJ Lin
/again, korean saranghaeyo. i love JJ, can't say more/

DiDa - Peter Ho
/i think i said enough in post about him. this song is like a hypnotize./

Ling - Alan Kuo
/first song from Alan i've ever heard and i knew from the very start that it'd be a long relationship/

And two more song I couldn't find on stream anywhere:
爱,很简单 (Original 1993 English Demo).心乱飞 - David Tao /only mandarin version is available, but for me English one is a complete killer/
But on the other hand there's Joanna's version which I love very much too:

And Making Love Out Of Nothing At All - Nicky Lee.
It's a new song from Nicky (Air Suply cover), made for Monga's ost. I think it'll be available soon coz someone is uploading the whole ost right now.

Yu Haoming - Hug

\

To be honest I'll tell you why I took this album in the first place. Because I read that there's something in Korean. I didn't care if it's one word or whole song - I wanted to hear Korean! But when I got this album and played first song I liked it from the beginning. Sometimes he gives us pop, sometimes rock and sometimes a ballad - in Mandarin, one in Cantonese and... one in Korean! And yes, the korean one is my favorite. But I'm really glad I listened to the whole album and didn't look for just that song. 我沒那麼帥 nice! 心中的英雄 is a beautiful song with a rock rhythm. 擁抱, title song, is a ballad sung both in Mandarin and Cantonese. 陷入愛裡面 is this korean song I mentioed. I wonder if it's in Korean then why the title's in Chinese? I don't know who the girl is, I only suppose it's Seo Jin Young, coz he sang one song (in Mandarin) on this album already. But not sure. But 陷入愛裡面 is beautiful ballad. And I wonder again - can he speak Korean or he just learned few lyrics? If he can I love him even more <3 :D He's young, handsome, talentd and sings in four languages - what more would I want? XD
Okay, since I'm in a little rush - that's why I skipped lots of song and I gotta write one more note here - I'll be finishing. Try it! I really liked it!

G.E.M Tang - 18...

Finally!!! Gloria Tang, 18-year old singer from Hong Kong finally released her first full-length album. This is her late birthday gift. I love her voice and I'm a total fan of her. I was waiting for it so long.
All About You was her first single promoting this album. And then Game Over came. I loved it from the start, couldn't stop listen to it. It's so catchy! The next track 想講你知 is one of my favorites. I'm sure chorus will be in my head for the whole week :P A.I.N.Y and Mascara are ballads. Quite nice but the most important, they're in Mandarin! A.I.N.Y stands for Although I Need You and it's a beautiful song. I love it more the more I listen to it. 我不懂愛 is also in Mandarin. I like it. 塞納河 is a ballad, but some other kind. I love the guitar and strings in the background. The only song I don't really get is G.E.M. (Get Everybody Moving). It's weird, clubbing song. Not bad though, but so different than the whole album. Gets much better after few hearings. Uhm, and 18 is kinda boring. Too bad, I hoped for something nice as for the title song. And as a bonus two remixes for Where Did You Go and Mascara. I'm totally lovin' the first one.
So the album is a continuation of her previous EPs. No drastic changes in style. I'm glad she sings half of songs in Mandarin.
Highly recommended. Check it out!

Keeva Mak - Debut

Keeva Mak is a newcomer from Hong Kong. She used to be a backing singer, but now she released her first album. As for a debut it's a great thing. Once I played I couldn't stop. Don't know why, but these song really made my day. First track 殺死我的溫柔 was her first hit. Really nice song. 不加塑 has a catchy rocky rhythm, one of my faves. Wonderful chours.
I wonder if we can actually call it pop. She doesn't do rock, but in most of her songs there is a guitar in the back, so pop rock? Not yet I guess. Nevermind. Let's just enjoy it. And I can bet that if it was in Mandarin, it would be one of my favorite albums this fall.

Fiona Sit - Read Me EP

For some reason I don't like her music that much. But it doesn't matter, I have her newest EP. Since she's got lots of fans I decided to upload this.
Six songs, four ballads in it. Love, love the first and last track. Especially the last one. Nice and catchy song about falling in love with Lily Allen :P I'm not a fan of western pop music and I'm trying to stay away from it, so I didn't even know who Lily Allen is. Of course I heard the name, but music? Not really. Didn't but now I know :P Thanks to Fiona I guess. I'm not sure if this song wasn't sang before in Cantonese by her, that's possible, but since I'm not familiar with her music it stays a mystery for me.

Charlene Choi - Another Me EP

I'm tryin' to get you, guys, the newest stuff I find recommendable, but not only that. So this EP is like from... yesterday? Or maybe even today.

I find it interesting that the more I listen to the Chinese music, the more I listen to ballads. I don't know maybe it's just that they put them like everywhere so when I'm doing some works, surf in the net or read a book I just don't mind if there's a slow, mellow ballad or a fast one. I find it relaxing. But another interesting thing is that I listen to more and more Cantonese music. Most of the new releases now are Cantonese. Somehow that language doesn't bother me anymore. Maybe I got used to it. Nevermind, it's a positive, why bother questioning 'bout it?
Kay, to the right topic now!

Charlene Choi's new EP. I did hear her before, but not much really. She's a member of the famous Twins, but I don't actually listen to them. But I like her voice. It's warm and nice. But with this EP it was little different. Why I got it? Honestly, it was the cover that got my attention first. BEAUTIFUL. Love it! Forgive me, I'm a cover fetishist, I would want to see only beautiful covers that express the spirit of music. Don't know if Chalrene's cover represents the music, but sure it's artistic. And so simple, isn't it? Just check out her photo session for this.
The EP? Full of ballads! Ballads that don't annoy me, ballads that are pretty nice. But honestly the last track, little faster 同班同学, is my favorite. Nice work.

Eunix Lee - After School

Yes, another cantopop artist. This time it's Eunix Lee from Hong Kong. I like her voice and pop rockish, energizing tunes. The first track 不愛名牌 is a nice song, my favorite. All is fine is a ballad, not bad, but not really my rhytms. 連環分守 is kinda weird. It's a rock ballad, with a great guitar parts in the background. Love the last track, especially guitars. But it would sound so much better in mandarin though! Nevertheless I enjoyed this EP a lot.
