Vanness Wu - Reflections

I kinda wtf'ed when I saw Vanness' Reflection on chinese music sites lately. It's not like it's something that new, it was released... a month ago? And it's in japanese mostly. But I thought since ppl are giving it on their blogs and I really liked the album why not me?
For some reason I don't really like when mandopop artists hit japanese market. Not that I wish them bad and don't want to see their success. No. I really do want them to success, but as far as I saw everyone who's hitting northern market doesn't really do a good job. It's like they either digg their old stuff and rearrange it in japanese, or do some boring ballads or they go without any echo. That makes me sad coz they're underrated there. But in Taiwan (for e.g) they're respected. I'd rather prefer them to do one or two songs in japanese on their mandarin albums. That's better I think. Like Peter Ho did once.
But on the other hand it looks like Vanness is doin' pretty good with his single in Japan. I'm glad. And his album is really good.

Hyper Car is something that'll make you sing it on and on. I'm totally obsessed with this song. He mixes English with Japanese so smoothly and with that freaky rhythm it's really hot! My favorite song here. Kodoku is typical japanese ballad. I like it though I prefer Vanness doin' more dance tunes. Same goes for Stuck On U. Reason seemed boring for me in the beginning but for now... I think i'm starting to like it. His voice sounds so good there! Even with that autotune or whatever it is. Purple Rain has boring verses but chorus is nice. And his freakin' east coast accent when he sings "rain" ^^ And here's where the Japanese part ends and English song come. Super Model isn't that bad... but I know it could be so much better. And I must admit that I love the "hey, how're ya doin? Good to see ya..." (and so on) part. But still too monotonous for a song 4 minutes long. And there's Sail Aways which is beautiful and it's the first song I had heard before I listened to the whole album. It actually made me listen it all. And Devil. Another song that I'm obsessed with. But the beginning talk annoys me. Actually the whole religious message of this song does, but I can skip the lyrics and focus on amazing rhythm, flow, voices and everything that makes me dance to this tune. But is it appropriate to dance to song about Jesus? Lol. And I almost forgot. Vanness sings in Mandarin here too. So we've got 3 languages on this album. Amazing.

Srsly it was like the biggest surprise of the year. I hope every cpop artist who is heading to Japan will take an example of him.
